Digital nomad residency in Argentina

Argentina’s digital nomad category is a transitory residency for foreign nationals who provide remote services to clients abroad. It is not a work permit for a job with an Argentine employer, and it is not a path that automatically leads to permanent residency or citizenship. This page is general information, not legal or tax advice.

Who it is for

  • Citizens of countries that do not need a tourist visa to enter Argentina.
  • People who work independently, through computer or telecommunications means, for individuals or companies based outside Argentina.
  • Applicants who can document their activity: a short CV, a description of the planned work, and proof such as a contract, a company letter, invoices or income receipts, with at least one professional reference.

If you will be paid by a company set up in Argentina or work under local employment, this category may not fit; compare it with the work residency.

Two different procedures

1. You are not yet in Argentina — TIE 24H. The DNM offers an online electronic entry procedure. You upload a signed letter describing your activity, a CV, passport images, a new photo and proof of your work. If it is approved, you receive an email with an entry authorization certificate to show to the immigration officer on arrival.

2. You are already in Argentina. According to the DNM, this procedure is done in person and not through RADEX. In Buenos Aires City you contact the office by email as indicated on the official page; elsewhere you go to the DNM office for your jurisdiction. A priority appointment is available for an extra fee. Do not start the wrong procedure by reading only the general RADEX guide.

Documents the DNM lists

  • Valid passport (MERCOSUR nationals may use the documents listed in the MERCOSUR agreement).
  • Argentine criminal record certificate for applicants aged 16 or over.
  • Proof of address and of regular entry into the country.
  • Signed application with personal data, planned activity and a short CV.
  • Proof of work and at least one professional reference.
  • Foreign documents legalized or apostilled; documents in another language need a certified Spanish translation, legalized by the Colegio de Traductores. Bring originals; the DNM may request more.

Duration and extension

The residency is granted for up to 180 days and can be extended for an equal period. The extension is a separate procedure, done in person, for which you must be in Argentina and show income from remote services earned during the period you want to extend. The first 180 days do not mean the next 180 are automatic.

Fees, DNI and taxes

The official pages do not list amounts; they refer to the DNM migration fee table, so check it on the day you apply. This category does not give a DNI. Tax residence, bank accounts and health insurance are separate questions from immigration status; ask a qualified accountant.
